Officer Domingo Jasso, III

Officer Domingo Jasso died as the result of complication after contracting COVID-19 while on duty at the Progreso/Donna Port of Entry in Progresso, Texas. Officer Jasso had served with the United States Customs and Border Protection - Office of Field Operations for nine years. He is survived by his wife, three children, parents, and two sisters. In early 2020, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the country contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic due to requirements of their job. Many of these first responders died as a result of COVID-19.

Sergeant Sean Rios

Houston Police Department, Texas

EOW: Nov. 9, 2020 | Age: 47 | Tour: 25 Years

Sergeant Sean Rios was shot and killed in the 7700 block of North Freeway at about 1:30 pm while en route to start his shift at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. He encountered two vehicles and an armed man on the roadway and became engaged in a shootout with the subject. Sergeant Rios was fatally wounded in the shootout. The subjects in both vehicles fled the scene. The man suspected of shooting Sergeant Rios was arrested the following day. The second subject remains at large. Sergeant Rios had served with the Houston Police Department for 25 years and was assigned to the Airport Division. He is survived by four children, parents, brother, and two cousins who work also serve with the Houston Police Department.

Firefighter Johnny Ivison, Jr.

Easton Township Fire Department, Kansas

On Sunday, November 8, 2020, Firefighter Johnny Ivison, Jr., was responding to a call of a residential fire in Easton, Kansas, in his privately owned vehicle, a Chevrolet Silverado Truck, when the vehicle went off the road. Firefighter Ivison attempted to correct his path, but overcorrected causing the truck to roll over numerous times, ejecting him from the vehicle. He died from the injuries sustained in the crash.

*The $5,000 survivor benefit is paid when a line of duty death occurs. Line of duty is defined as AFBA members who are Emergency Service Providers to include law enforcement, firefighters, and emergency medical services providers who are killed while involved in operations at or responding to/from the scene of an incident. If death occurs otherwise, outside of a suicide, the beneficiary will receive a $2000 benefit.
