Police Officer Horacio Dominguez was killed in a vehicle crash on I-75 near mile marker 51 in Collier County at about 1:20 am. One of the rear tires on his patrol vehicle blew out, causing his vehicle to go out of control and overturn several times. Officer Dominguez suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Officer Dominguez was a U.S. Marine Corps and Army National Guard veteran. He is survived by his wife and young daughter.

Lieutenant Eugene Lasco

Lieutenant Eugene Lasco was stabbed to death by an inmate at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City, Indiana. The prisoner was being escorted through a common area when he began to assault another corrections officer. When Lieutenant Lasco came to the officer's assistance the inmate stabbed him as well before being subdued by other officers. Lieutenant Lasco and the other wounded officer were transported to Franciscan Health Michigan City. Lieutenant Lasco succumbed to his wounds at the hospital. The inmate, who was serving a sentence for three murders in Marion County, was charged with murder was charged with Lieutenant Lasco's murder and other offenses. Lieutenant Lasco is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Natural Resources Officer Jason Lagore

Natural Resources Officer Jason Lagore died after suffering a medical emergency while conducting a search for a juvenile who had fallen through the ice at Rocky Fork Lake at Rocky Fork State Park. Two juveniles had fallen through the ice but one was able to get to shore. Officer Lagore and other first responders were searching for the other juvenile when he suffered a medical emergency. He was transported Highland District Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The second juvenile was recovered from the water a short time later and also pronounced dead at a local hospital. Officer Lagore had served with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources - Division of State Parks and Watercraft for 15 years. He is survived by his wife and two young sons.

Deputy Sheriff Thomas Albanese

Deputy Sheriff Thomas Albanese was killed in a motorcycle crash at the intersection of Del Amo Boulevard and Paramount Boulevard, in Lakewood, at about 9:00 am. His patrol motorcycle collided with a vehicle in the intersection and he suffered fatal injuries. Deputy Albanese was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and had served with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department for seven years. He is survived by his wife and two young sons.

Officer Genaro Guerrero died from complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 in a presumed exposure while on duty at the San Ysidro Port of Entry in California. Officer Guerrero had served with the United States Customs and Border Protection - Office of Field Operations for 16 years and had previously served with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department for 15 years. He is survived by his wife and four children. In early 2020, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the country contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic due to requirements of their job. Many of these first responders died as a result of COVID-19.

Corrections Officer IV Tawiwo Obele died from complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 during an outbreak among employees and inmates at the Beto Unit in Palestine, Texas. Officer Obele had served with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for two years. In early 2020, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the country contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic due to requirements of their job. Many of these first responders died as a result of COVID-19.

Firefighter Phillip Craig Ginter

While working a four-alarm fire at a local farm, Firefighter Phillip Craig Ginter became ill as he helped to pump water at a designated fill site. Ginter became unresponsive and had no pulse before EMS arrived. As a result, responders on scene administered CPR on Ginter. Once EMS arrived, Ginter was transported to Geisinger Lewistown Hospital where he passed away.
