Detective Greg Ferency was shot and killed outside of the FBI Indianapolis Resident Agency near the intersection of Wabash Court and First Street in Terre Haute. A subject ambushed Detective Ferency in front of the building at about 2:15 pm. FBI agents inside of the building rushed outside and shot the subject, who then drove himself to a local hospital where he was taken into custody. Detective Ferency had served with the Terre Haute Police Department for 30 years and was assigned to the FBI Task Force.

Firefighter Recruit Tyvaughn Eldridge

On Thursday, July 1, 2021, Firefighter Recruit Tyvaughn Eldridge suffered a medical emergency during mandatory physical fitness training at the fire department. He passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Firefighter Sean W. DeMuynck

Lower Merion Fire Department/Penn Wynne-Overbrook Hills Fire Company, Pennsylvania

On Sunday, July 4, 2021, Firefighter Sean W. DeMuynck was operating at the scene of a residential fire when he was found unresponsive on the third floor of the single-family dwelling. Firefighter DeMuynck was treated and rushed by EMS to nearby Lankenau Hospital where he passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, July 5, 2021.

*The $5,000 survivor benefit is paid when a line of duty death occurs. Line of duty is defined as AFBA members who are Emergency Service Providers to include law enforcement, firefighters, and emergency medical services providers who are killed while involved in operations at or responding to/from the scene of an incident. If death occurs otherwise, outside of a suicide, the beneficiary will receive a $2000 benefit.
