Driver/Engineer Giovanni Ciancio responded to an EMS call with a patient with a known case of COVID-19. He subsequently contracted the virus and passed away on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021.

On Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021, Assistant Chief Lucas Stephenson was responding to a motor vehicle accident on Arkansas Highway 296 when the brush truck he was driving overturned numerous times. He passed away at the scene. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Corporal Miguel Rodriguez

Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services - Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement, Fl

Corporal Miguel Rodriguez died from complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 while working at the Florida Agricultural Checkpoint at 752300 Interstate 95 in Yulee. Corporal Rodriguez had served with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services - Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement for over 15 years. He is survived by three daughters. Beginning in early 2020, due to the requirements of their job, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the United States contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic. Hundreds of law enforcement officers died from medical complications as a result of contracting the virus while remaining on duty and interacting with the community.

Deputy Sheriff Joshua J. Welge

Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, Florida

Deputy Sheriff Joshua Welge died from complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty. Deputy Welge had served with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office for 16 years and had previously served with the Venice Police Department for six years. He is survived by his wife and three children. Beginning in early 2020, due to the requirements of their job, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the United States contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic. Hundreds of law enforcement officers died from medical complications as a result of contracting the virus while remaining on duty and interacting with the community.

Sergeant Michael Dunn died from complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty. Sergeant Dunn was a United States Marine Corps veteran. He had served with the Amarillo Police Department for over 21 years. He is survived by his wife and four children. Beginning in early 2020, due to the requirements of their job, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the United States contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic. Hundreds of law enforcement officers died from medical complications as a result of contracting the virus while remaining on duty and interacting with the community.

Police Officer Tyler Timmins

Pontoon Beach Police Department, Illinois

EOW: Oct. 26, 2021 | Age: 36 | Tour: 15 years

Police Officer Tyler Timmins was shot and killed while investigating a stolen vehicle in the parking lot of a Speedway gas station at the intersection of Illinois 111 and Chains of Rocks Road at about 8:00 am. He was approaching the pickup truck when a subject opened fire on him, fatally wounding him. The subject who shot him was arrested by other officers at the scene. Officer Timmins was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to SSM Health St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He died a short time later. Officer Timmins had served with the Pontoon Beach Police Department for 18 months. He had previously served with the Roxana Police Department, Wordon Police Department, and Hartford Police Department for 14 years. He is survived by his wife and stepdaughter.

Staff Sergeant Jesse Sherrill

New Hampshire State Police, New Hampshire

Staff Sergeant Jesse Sherrill was killed in a vehicle crash on I-95 in Portsmouth at about 12:30 am. He was providing police assistance to a work crew that was installing rumble strips on the shoulder of I-95 when his patrol car was struck from behind by a tractor trailer. He was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Sergeant Sherrill had served with the New Hampshire State Police for 19 years and was the assistant commander of Troop A. He had previously served with the Hooksett Police Department for one year.

Firefighter Larry Wyant

Joes Volunteer Fire Department, Colorado

On Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021, Firefighter Larry Wyant was driving to the funeral of Captain Darcy Stallings, who was killed last week in an automobile accident while responding to a residential fire, when a call came in for a combine that sparked a fire in a cornfield. He and the members of his department faced 30 mph winds, with gusts up to 60 mph, with the wind direction changing as they worked to stop the fire. Firefighter Wyant was out of the truck attempting to get a hose line stretched when the fire overtook him. He passed away at the scene.

Police Officer Stephen Evans

Burns Police Department, Kansas

EOW: Oct. 25, 2021 | Age: 44 | Tour: 16 years

Police Officer Stephen Evans was killed in a vehicle crash in the 5000 block of U.S. Highway 77 at about 5:00 pm. He was attempting to make a U-turn when his patrol car was struck by an oncoming vehicle. Officer Evans succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Officer Evans served as a part-time officer with the Burns Police Department and as a full-time deputy with the Butler County Sheriff's Office for 16 months. He was the Burns Police Department's only officer. He had previously served with the Kansas Department of Corrections for 15 years. He is survived by his wife, three children, parents, and brother.
