Detention Officer Isaiah Bias

Detention Officer Isaiah Bias died after being assaulted by an inmate at the Wayne McCollum Detention Center at 300 South Jackson Street in Waxahachie. At 3:45 p.m., Officer Bias was transferring the inmate to his cell when he was attacked. He was transported to the local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The inmate has been charged with capital murder. Officer Bias had served with the Ellis County Sheriff's Office for over six years. He is survived by his mother, two sisters, nieces, and nephews.

Chief Joseph Lynn Murphy

On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, Chief Joseph Lynn Murphy responded to a residential alarm. He then returned home. Later in the day, Chief Murphy suffered a cardiac event and was immediately transported to the hospital where he passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024.

Firefighter Jeffrey Albanese

A veteran Brockton firefighter died days after he suffered a cardiac arrest while responding to a call. Jeffrey Albanese went into cardiac arrest while responding to an emergency on Dec. 9. Firefighters began resuscitation efforts, along with Brewster EMS and transported him to a local hospital, Fire Chief Brian Nardelli shared in a statement. He was transferred to Beth Israel Deaconess in Boston, "where he received incredible care since his transfer there," Nardelli said. Albanese succumbed to his injuries around 11 p.m. on Dec. 21. He joined the Brockton Fire Department on Sept. 11, 2000. He was assigned to Ladder 1 and before that, he was the senior man on Engine 4. According to the Fall River Reporter, Albanese leaves behind a wife and two children.

Trooper Clay M. Carns

Illinois State Police, Illinois

Trooper Clay Carns was struck and killed by a passing vehicle on I-55 near Channahon, Illinois. At 9:42 p.m., Trooper Carns was removing debris from the southbound highway north of Blodgett Road when a driver did not stop and struck him. He was transported to St. Joseph Hospital, where he died from his injuries an hour later. The driver was charged with failure to slow down and move over when emergency vehicles were on the side of the road. Trooper Carns had served with the Illinois State Police for 11 years. He is survived by his wife, two children, and parents. December 23 is Scott Law Day in Illinois, also known as the "Move Over Law," which requires drivers to slow down or move over for emergency or construction vehicles.
