On April 14, 2025, Sergeant John Robinson was found unresponsive while on duty at Lafayette Fire Department’s Station 9 and passed away. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
Captain Helio Garcia was killed when his patrol car was struck by another vehicle at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Flat Shoals Road close to Connell Road. Captain Garcia was on patrol when a vehicle veered into his lane and hit his patrol car head-on. Captain Garcia was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries early the next morning. The driver of the other vehicle remains in serious condition. Captain Garcia was a United States Marine Corps veteran who had served with the South Fulton Police Department for over six years. He had previously served with the College Park Police Department and the Holy Springs Police Department and was instrumental in forming the South Fulton Police Department. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, a son, his mother, his father, and two brothers. Captain Garcia was posthumously promoted to Captain.
Lieutenant Paul Mickolick responded to an emergency call of a vehicle accident. When he got to the scene, Lieutenant Mickolick discovered a pickup truck that was stuck in a ditch. After radioing other emergency responders to notify them of what he found at the scene and slow their response, Lieutenant Mickolick began to assist the driver of the pickup truck. A short time later, another vehicle drove off the right side of the roadway and into the ditch striking both Lieutenant Mickolick and the driver of the pickup truck. Other emergency responders got to the scene and initiated CPR. Lieutenant Mickolick was then transported to a local hospital where, despite all efforts, was pronounced deceased. The driver of the pickup truck was flown by helicopter to another hospital with serious injuries.
Tri-Community Joint Fire Department firefighter John Saunders responded to a Willard house fire Wednesday night. A firefighter was recovered in the basement of a Willard home after responding to a house fire Wednesday night. John Saunders, 41, a Tri-Community Joint Fire Department firefighter, responded to the fire in the 700 block of U.S. Route 224 in Willard where a caller reported smoke coming from the home just after 10 p.m. According to Fox8.com, the occupants were not at home at the time of the fire. The Huron County Coroner’s Office said Saunders was found in the basement and was investigating the cause of the fire.
