Deputy Sheriff Jesse Perez

Dawson County Sheriff's Office, Texas

EOW: April 22, 2025 | Age: 42 | Tour: 8 Months

Deputy Sheriff Jesse Perez was killed when debris from a commercial vehicle struck him during a traffic stop on West U.S. Highway 180 in Lamesa. He succumbed to his injuries at Lamesa Medical Arts Hospital. Deputy Perez had served with the Dawson County Sheriff's Office for eight months. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, a son, mother, two brothers, a sister, and a grandson.

Senior Firefighter Corban Summers

South Jordan Fire Department, Utah

Senior Firefighter Corban Summers was found unresponsive in his room at Station 61 of the South Jordan Fire Department. Fellow crew members immediately began lifesaving measures and then transported Senior Firefighter Summers to Jordan Valley Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The cause of death has not yet been determined.

Captain David Meyer

Chicago Fire Department, Illinois

As members of the Chicago Fire Department began salvage and overhaul after extinguishing a garage fire, Captain David Meyer was critically injured when the garage collapsed. A mayday was called immediately. Captain Meyer was then transported to Stroger Hospital where he later passed away from the injuries he sustained.

Deputy Sheriff Brandon Ray Sikes

Columbia County Sheriff's Office, Georgia

EOW: April 26, 2025 | Age: 31 | Tour: 6 Years

Deputy Sheriff Brandon Sikes was shot and killed during an attempted traffic stop just before exit 194 on Interstate 20, near Augusta, at approximately 6:30 p.m. Deputy Sikes and three other deputies were serving a domestic violence protective order on the subject. At first, the man was compliant and non-threatening, but when deputies turned away, he fired at them with a 9mm AR Pistol. Deputy Sikes was mortally wounded. Another deputy was shot in the face. Two deputies returned fire. One of the deputies gathered the injured deputy through a barrage of gunfire and transported him to the hospital, where he is in critical condition. The suspect attempted to flee in his camper but was stopped on the highway. Hours later, drones found the suspect dead inside his camper with pipe bombs, firearms, and ammunition. Deputy Sikes was a United States Army veteran and had served with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office for over six years. He is survived by his wife, who also serves with the agency, a daughter, parents, three brothers, nieces, and a nephew.

Firefighter/Medic Graham Hoffman

Kansas City Missouri Fire Department, Missouri

Firefighter/Medic Graham Hoffman was stabbed in the chest by a patient he was transporting to a local hospital. Immediately after the stabbing, additional personnel from the Kansas City Missouri Fire and Police Departments were dispatched to the scene. Kansas City Missouri Fire Department crews worked to save Firefighter/Medic Hoffman’s life while they transported him to North Kansas City Hospital. Lifesaving efforts continued in the hospital emergency room before Firefighter/Medic Hoffman was moved into surgery. Despite all these lifesaving efforts, Firefighter/Medic Hoffman passed away from the injuries he sustained. The patient who stabbed Firefighter/Medic Hoffman was taken into custody.

Firefighter/EMT Scott Adams

Milton-Washington Township Fire Department, Indiana

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on April 24, 2025, Firefighter/EMT Scott Adams responded to an emergency call for a motor vehicle accident. Afterwards, Firefighter/EMT Adams returned home. The following day, Firefighter/EMT Adams was found unresponsive at his home and pronounced deceased at 12:49 p.m. The cause of death has yet to be determined.

Assistant Fire Chief Chip Chidester

Harford Volunteer Fire Company, Pennsylvania

Harford Volunteer Assistant Chief Chip Chidester died a day after his communitry turned out en masse to support him. Last month, he fell and suffered a leg fracture while fighting a brush fire. He told me he said, 'Charlene if I don't make a dollar today, I'm the richest man in the world,’” Charlene Batzel told WNEP. “He said, 'Look at all these people with all of the love and support of the community." Harford Fire Chief Chad Batzel said Chidester will be missed. "It's one of those things where it feels like you see it on the news, but now we are the news, now he is the news. It literally cannot get any closer to home than being right here in our own building."
