Sergeant J. D. White

Sergeant J.D. White was struck and killed while escorting a funeral procession. He was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, where he succumbed to his injuries. Sergeant White had served with the Angleton Police Department for 19 years.

Police Officer Krystal Rivera

Chicago Police Department, Illinois

Police Officer Krystal Rivera was shot and killed during a confrontation with an armed subject. While on routine patrol at 9:50 p.m., officers attempted to stop a man they suspected of having a weapon at the 8200 block of South Drexel Avenue in the Gresham neighborhood. The subject fled and officers pursued the subject into an apartment building, where they were confronted by another armed subject. During the chaotic encounter, an officer discharged their weapon, fatally striking Officer Rivera. Officer Rivera was placed into a patrol vehicle, but while en route to the hospital, the car experienced a mechanical malfunction, catching fire. She was transported in another vehicle and succumbed to her wounds at the hospital. The two suspects fled the scene but were apprehended shortly thereafter. Officer Rivera had served with the Chicago Police Department for four years. She is survived by her daughter.

Police Officer Gabriel Facio

Apache Junction Police Department, Arizona

Police Officer Gabriel Facio died six days after being shot in the face by a driver who had been pulled over for brandishing a gun in a road-rage incident in the area near Ironwood Drive and Elliott Road. On the morning of Monday, June 2, Officer Facio and additional officers responded to a road-rage incident involving a driver who had allegedly threatened others with a gun. After being pulled over, the driver was initially cooperative. However, when asked to step out of the vehicle, he became aggressive, retrieved a handgun from the glove compartment, and exited the vehicle. Officers ordered him to stop and attempted to subdue him with non-lethal weapons, but the subject fired at the officers, striking Officer Facio in the face. Officers returned fire, wounding the subject. Officer Facio was rushed to the hospital, where he remained in critical condition for six days before succumbing to his wounds just after 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 8. The subject was injured and also taken to the hospital; he will be charged with homicide. Officer Facio had served with the Apache Junction Police Department for nearly four years and had previously served as an officer in Phoenix and other agencies in the area. He is survived by his wife, daughter, son, parents, and a grandchild.

Firefighter Jake Wayne Bridges

Hickory Fire Department, North Carolina

At approximately 1:49 a.m. on June 5, Hickory Fire Department firefighters, including Firefighter Jake Bridges, were dispatched to a structure fire. The fire was extinguished, and firefighters cleared the scene at approximately 4:52 a.m. After returning to the station, firefighters worked to get the truck back in service. At approximately 5:08 a.m., Firefighter Bridges experienced a medical emergency and was transported to a local hospital. Despite resuscitation efforts of his fellow firefighters, first responders, and medical personnel, Firefighter Bridges passed away.

Paramedic Wesley England

Nelson County EMS, Kentucky

Nelson County, KY, Paramedic Dies of Injuries in Crash During his last shift, Nelson County Paramedic Wesley England had been involved in a physical altercation with a patient. EMS, fire and police officers saluted as a Nelson County paramedic was returned to Kentucky. Wesley England, 41, who worked for Nelson County EMS, suffered an apparent heart attack while driving his personal vehicle after a busy shift including one that involved a physical encounter with a patient at a detention center, according to WDRB. He was stricken while at a light on May 23. His vehicle crashed into the one in front of his. After impact, his vehicle hit a parked minivan and a light pole. \England was flown to a Tennessee trauma cener where he was placed on life support. He died June 2. On Tuesday, he was placed in the ambulance he worked in and escorted back to Hart County, KY by EMS, firefighters and police officers. "The outpouring of support we witnessed along the way was truly humbling. From the Tennessee and Kentucky State Police escorting to city and county law enforcement, fire departments, EMS agencies, towing services, and members of the public who stood silently along roadways—your presence meant everything," Nelson County EMS officials posted on its Facebook page. England was a deputy sherff with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and school resource officer. He also served part-time with Washington County EMS and Cumberland County EMS
