Paramedic Mary Jolly was fatally injured when she was stopped to help at a multi-vehicle crash in Florida, according to investigators. It happened just after 12 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, on Interstate 95 near Mims, Florida, and involved five vehicles, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Gaston County EMS reports paramedic Mary Jolly, 27, died at a Florida hospital shortly after 11 a.m. Monday. She lived in Dallas, according to the crash report. “This tragedy is a powerful reminder of the selflessness and courage our team members embody, not only while on duty but in their personal lives as well,” Gaston County EMS wrote in a Nov. 15 Facebook post.

Corrections Officer Jeremy Hall

Corrections Officer Jeremy Hall was attacked and killed by an inmate at the River North Correctional Center at 329 Dellbrook Lane in Independence at 7:53 a.m. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Two additional officers were injured and released from the hospital. The inmate was serving time for an armed carjacking offense, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony offense, and a shoplifting offense. Corrections Officer Hall had served with the Virginia Department of Corrections for a year and a half.

Police Officer Alec Sanders

Alhambra Police Department (CA)

Police Officer Alec Sanders was killed in a vehicle crash at 3:00 a.m. at the intersection of Valley Boulevard and Edgewood Drive in Alhambra. Officers were pursuing a stolen SUV northbound on Edgewood Drive when it collided with Officer Sander's patrol vehicle, driving westbound on Valley Boulevard. Officer Sanders was transported to the Los Angeles General Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver and one of the passengers were injured with non-life-threatening injuries, and a third passenger died at the scene. The driver was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder. Officer Sanders had served with the Alhambra Police Department for eight months and previously served with the Long Beach Police Department for over a year. He is survived by his fiancée, two younger sisters, and a brother.

Sergeant Terri Mashkow

Sergeant Terri Mashkow was shot and killed while serving an eviction notice at the 1100 block of Governors Way in Vero Beach. When three deputies and a locksmith entered the home at 8:42 a.m., a subject approached them in the entryway and fired at them. One deputy was struck in the shoulder before fleeing into the garage. Sergeant Mashkow was struck and killed. Another sergeant returned fire, wounding the shooter. The locksmith was critically wounded and succumbed to his wounds a few days later. The suspect was transported to the hospital in critical condition and died two days later. Sergeant Mashkow had served with the Indian River County Sheriff's Office for 25 years. She is survived by her husband, daughter, step-son, and mother. Sergeant Mashkow was posthumously promoted to Sergeant.
